High-Torque Forged Axle Shaft Solutions

An axle shaft must transmit full drive torque while withstanding bending loads from vehicle weight and dynamic road inputs — simultaneously, for the entire service life of the vehicle. Only hot-forged axle shafts with correctly specified steel and heat treatment deliver the torsional fatigue life that modern vehicles demand. Shivam Forge has produced forged axle shafts for Indian and export automotive OEMs for over 20 years.

Axle Shaft Types We Forge

Semi-Floating Rear Axle Shafts

Forged semi-floating axle shafts for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. SAE 1040 or SAE 4140 depending on torque rating. Flanged end and splined inner end forged near-net for subsequent machining.

Full-Floating Rear Axle Shafts

Forged full-floating axle shafts for medium and heavy trucks and buses. EN19 or SAE 4140, quenched and tempered to 262–311 HB. Drive flange bolt circle and spline section configured per vehicle specification.

Truck & HCV Rear Drive Axle Shafts

Heavy-duty forged rear drive axle shafts in EN24 and SAE 4340 for trucks, HCVs and buses. Torque rating up to 25,000 Nm. Induction-hardened splines (55–60 HRC) for maximum durability under high drive torque.

Tractor Rear Axle Shafts & Blanks

Forged tractor rear axle shafts in SAE 4140 for two-wheel drive tractors and EN24 for four-wheel drive high-torque applications. Supplied as forged blanks or semi-machined to customer drawing.

CV Front Axle Shafts

Forged front CV axle shaft inners and outers for four-wheel drive passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. SAE 4140 or EN19 grade; forged yoke or tulip end features near-net for CNC finish machining.

Agricultural & Off-Highway Axle Blanks

Forged axle blanks for combine harvesters, tractors, tillers and off-highway equipment. Custom profiles forged to customer specification in SAE 1040 through to EN24 grade depending on duty cycle.

Axle Shaft Manufacturing Capabilities

Closed-Die Hot Forging

Axle shafts are produced by closed-die hot forging at 1150–1250°C, producing full grain flow along the shaft axis and through the flange radius — the critical fatigue initiation zone on any axle shaft.

Quench & Temper Heat Treatment

EN24 and SAE 4340 axle shafts are quenched in oil or polymer and tempered to specified hardness (typically 269–311 HB for high-torque rear axle applications). Heat treatment charts recorded for every batch.

Induction Hardening of Splines & Journals

Axle splines and journal diameters are induction hardened to 55–62 HRC case hardness with controlled case depth (1.5–3.5 mm), providing wear resistance at the drive interface while preserving toughness in the shaft body.

Spline Cutting (Hobbing & Broaching)

We cut involute splines to DIN 5480, SAE J498 and custom specifications. Spline profile, tooth count and fit class are verified using gear measurement equipment.

Journal Grinding

Bearing journal diameters are cylindrically ground to k6/m6 tolerance with Ra 0.4 μm surface finish to ensure correct bearing interference fit and long bearing service life.

Magnetic Particle & Ultrasonic Inspection

Finished axle shafts are magnetic particle inspected for surface and near-surface cracks. High-value export axle shafts are additionally ultrasonically tested for internal discontinuities.

Why Choose Shivam Forge for Axle Shafts

Torsional Fatigue Performance

Grain flow continuity through forging, correct alloy selection and validated heat treatment are the three pillars of torsional fatigue life in axle shafts. Shivam Forge controls all three.

Material Traceability

Every axle shaft forging lot is tied to a specific steel heat with spectrometric analysis. Material traceability from mill certificate to finished shaft is maintained under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.

OEM & Aftermarket Supply

We supply axle shaft forgings to automotive OEM tier-1 suppliers for new vehicle production and to aftermarket manufacturers for vehicle replacement parts. Both blank and semi-machined supply options are available.

Rajkot Automotive Forging Ecosystem

Rajkot's Shapar GIDC is the centre of India's automotive forging industry. Shivam Forge has 20+ years of experience in this ecosystem, with the supplier relationships and infrastructure to scale production rapidly.

Competitive Pricing vs. European Sources

Indian forged axle shafts from Shivam Forge are priced significantly below equivalent European or North American manufactured shafts, with full material and quality documentation to meet OEM requirements.

In-House Heat Treatment & Machining

Performing heat treatment, induction hardening, spline cutting and journal grinding in-house reduces lead time, eliminates subcontractor coordination risk and simplifies quality traceability.

Shivam Forge is a precision axle shaft forging manufacturer at Shapar GIDC, Rajkot, Gujarat, producing hot-forged axle shafts for passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, heavy trucks, tractors and off-highway agricultural equipment. We manufacture semi-floating and full-floating rear axle shafts, front CV axle shafts, truck rear drive axle shafts and tractor axle blanks in EN24, SAE 4340, SAE 4140 and EN19 steel grades, with in-house heat treatment, induction hardening, spline cutting and journal grinding. Our ISO 9001:2015 quality system provides the traceability and documentation discipline required by automotive OEM and tier-1 customers.

Axle shaft fatigue failures happen at two locations: the flange radius (bending fatigue from wheel load) and the spline run-out (torsional fatigue from drive torque shock loads). The hot forging process is essential at both locations — the grain flow in a forged shaft follows the component contour, crossing neither flaw nor sharp grain boundary at the critical radii, giving the forging a fundamental fatigue life advantage over machined bar. For EN24 and SAE 4340 high-torque truck axles, we additionally specify quench and temper heat treatment to 269–311 HB, bringing the tensile strength to 1000–1200 MPa while maintaining the impact toughness necessary to survive shock loads.

Our Rajkot facility has developed a full in-house machining and heat treatment capability specifically for axle shafts. After forging and trimming, shafts go through Q&T heat treatment, then to CNC turning for spline rough cut, then induction hardening of the spline and journal zones to 55–62 HRC at 1.5–3.5 mm case depth, then final spline inspection and journal grinding to Ra 0.4 μm. This integrated sequence under one roof means we control the full quality chain — no subcontractor coordination, no documentation gaps — and we can deliver semi-finished axle shafts ready for wheel flange machining or final assembly.

The Gujarat MSME sector's strength in automotive components manufacturing is well established, and Rajkot's Shapar GIDC is at the centre of it. Shivam Forge has been part of this ecosystem for over 20 years, building relationships with automotive OEMs and tier-1 axle manufacturers across India. Our axle shaft forgings are supplied to vehicle manufacturers in the passenger car, light CV, medium truck, heavy truck and tractor segments. We also export axle shaft forgings to aftermarket manufacturers in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia.

For purchasing managers sourcing forged axle shafts, Shivam Forge offers a clear value proposition: OEM-documentation-quality forgings with full traceability, in-house heat treatment and machining capability, and Indian pricing that is typically 25–40% below equivalent European supply.
