API 6A Compliant Forgings for Oil & Gas Equipment

Upstream oil and gas equipment operates under pressure, temperature and corrosion conditions that expose every design and material shortcut. Wellhead Christmas trees, gate valves, choke bodies and BOP assemblies must hold pressure reliably from the moment of commissioning through the life of the well. The forgings at the core of this equipment — valve bodies, bonnets, hanger profiles and manifold blocks — must carry PSL2 or PSL3 material documentation, meet NACE MR0175 sour service hardness requirements and pass AUT per API 6A PR1 or PR2. Shivam Forge has built the process discipline, heat treatment capability and documentation system to deliver oil and gas equipment forgings to these exacting standards.

Oil & Gas Equipment Forgings We Manufacture

Wellhead Component Forgings

Forged wellhead body blanks, casing head housings, tubing head spools and adapter flanges in AISI 4130 / AISI 4140 (NACE MR0175 compliant heat treatment) for surface wellhead assemblies. Machined bore and RTJ flange faces to API 6A dimensional standard. PSL2/PSL3 material test reports and NACE hardness certification issued.

Gate Valve Body & Bonnet Forgings

Precision closed-die forged gate valve body blanks and bonnet forgings in AISI 4130, F22 alloy steel and SS 316L for API 6D and API 6A slab-gate, through-conduit and expanding gate valves. Bodies forged to achieve integral flow bore orientation with grain flow aligned to pressure-retaining walls. Supplied rough-forged or pre-machined.

Choke Valve Body Forgings

Forged choke valve body blanks for positive choke, adjustable choke and surface safety valve choke applications in AISI 4130 / 4140 NACE compliant and Inconel 625 for sour or corrosive wellstream service. External hex or octagonal profiles forged integral to reduce machining of these critical pressure-retaining parts.

Manifold Block Forgings

Solid-section manifold block forgings in AISI 4130 and F22 for well testing, production and injection manifolds. Forging eliminates the weld seams and heat-affected zones that are the most common leak initiation points in fabricated manifold assemblies. 3D CMM inspection on first-off to verify bore position and wall thickness.

BOP Body Segment Forgings

Forged body segment blanks for ram BOP, annular BOP and rotating BOP pressure housings in AISI 4130 and API 16A compliant materials. High-integrity closed-die forgings with UT inspection per API 6A PR2 to verify freedom from volumetric defects in these safety-critical pressure-retaining components.

Tubing Hanger & Spool Body Forgings

Forged tubing hanger blanks, casing hanger profiles, mandrel spool bodies and cross-spool forgings in AISI 4130 NACE compliant and Inconel 625 for wellhead pressure containment and tubing suspension applications. Profile machined to API 6A dimensional requirements and customer wellhead drawings.

Materials & Standards for Oil & Gas Forgings

AISI 4130 / AISI 4140 — Core Wellhead Alloy Steel

The workhorse alloy for surface wellhead, valve body and BOP forgings. AISI 4130 and 4140 are forged and quench-and-tempered to API 6A PSL2/PSL3 mechanical property requirements (typically 75K, 80K or 90K yield classes). NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 hardness limits (max 22 HRC for carbon and low-alloy steel) are verified by Rockwell hardness testing on each heat.

F22 Alloy Steel (ASTM A182 F22 / 2.25Cr-1Mo)

Used for high-temperature wellhead and valve applications where elevated temperature service above 250°C is expected. F22 forgings are quench-and-tempered to API 6A mechanical requirements and PWHT is performed after any welding. Full EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 mill certification issued.

SS 316L — Corrosive Service Wellhead Components

Stainless steel 316L forged valve bodies, manifold blocks and wellhead components for corrosive gas wells, CO2 injection and low H2S sweet service applications. Forged and solution-annealed to ASTM A182 F316L requirements with pitting resistance number (PREN) verification on request.

Inconel 625 / Inconel 718 — Sour & High-Alloy Service

Inconel 625 (AMS 5666 / ASTM B564) forged wellhead hangers, choke body inserts and valve stems for highly sour (H2S) service where NACE MR0175 carbon steel hardness limits cannot provide adequate corrosion resistance. Inconel 625 is immune to sulphide stress cracking and chloride stress corrosion cracking in these environments.

NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 Sour Service Compliance

All AISI 4130/4140 oil and gas forgings are heat treated to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-2 hardness requirements and subjected to Rockwell hardness testing at multiple locations per piece. We issue a NACE hardness compliance certificate with each batch of sour-service wellhead and valve forgings.

API 6A / API 6D / API 16A Standards

Our oil and gas forgings are produced to the material, inspection and documentation requirements of API 6A (wellhead and christmas tree equipment), API 6D (pipeline valves) and API 16A (drillthrough equipment). PSL1, PSL2 and PSL3 documentation levels are available depending on equipment classification and customer specification.

Quality, Inspection & Documentation for API Forgings

PSL2 & PSL3 Material Documentation

We prepare PSL2 and PSL3 material documentation packages to API 6A Annex B: chemical analysis, ladle and product analysis, UTS, yield strength, elongation, CVN impact at specified temperature, hardness certificates, heat treatment records with furnace charts, dimensional inspection and UT/MT reports — all traceable to heat and lot number.

Ultrasonic Testing per API 6A PR1 / PR2

Forgings for PR1 and PR2 product specification level applications are ultrasonically tested per API 6A UT acceptance criteria. We use A-scan pulse-echo UT for body and bore regions and provide complete UT scan records with each shipment. Third-party UT by TÜV, BV or SGS is available on request.

Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT)

Magnetic particle inspection per API 6A and ASTM E709 is performed on all accessible surfaces of pressure-retaining forgings to detect surface and near-surface linear indications. MT is performed in both longitudinal and circular magnetisation directions. MT reports are issued with each shipment.

Positive Material Identification (PMI)

XRF-based positive material identification is performed on 100% of alloy steel and stainless steel oil and gas forgings to verify alloy grade before despatch. PMI records are included in the documentation package, preventing grade mix-up in pressure-retaining wellhead applications.

Heat Treatment Records & Furnace Charts

All quench-and-temper heat treatment operations are performed with calibrated furnace temperature charts recorded and retained. Furnace charts, quench cycle records and tempering temperature hold records are included in the PSL2/PSL3 documentation package as required by API 6A.

Third-Party Inspection (TPI) Coordination

We coordinate third-party inspection by customer-nominated TPI agencies — TÜV, Bureau Veritas, SGS, Intertek — at our Rajkot facility. TPI inspection of chemistry, dimensions, UT, MT and hardness can be witnessed at source before despatch. TPI inspection costs are invoiced at actual agency rates.

Shivam Forge is an oil and gas equipment forging manufacturer based at Shapar GIDC, Rajkot, Gujarat, producing API 6A, API 6D and API 16A compliant hot forgings for wellhead christmas tree assemblies, gate valves, choke valves, BOP equipment and production manifolds. Our forgings are produced in AISI 4130, AISI 4140, F22 alloy steel, SS 316L and Inconel 625 with PSL2/PSL3 documentation packages that meet the complete material, mechanical, heat treatment and inspection record requirements of API 6A Annex B. We have built the process discipline, heat treatment capability and quality documentation system specifically for the demanding oil and gas wellhead and pressure equipment market.

NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 sour service compliance is a mandatory requirement for any wellhead, valve or manifold forging intended for wells containing H2S. Our AISI 4130 and 4140 forgings are quench-and-tempered to achieve the NACE maximum hardness limit of 22 HRC for carbon and low-alloy steel, verified by Rockwell hardness testing at multiple locations on every piece. NACE hardness compliance certificates are issued with every sour-service forging batch. For highly sour environments where carbon steel hardness limits cannot provide adequate sulphide stress cracking resistance, we produce Inconel 625 wellhead hanger profiles and choke inserts that are immune to SSC.

The quality documentation for oil and gas pressure-retaining forgings goes well beyond a standard material test report. Our PSL2 and PSL3 packages include ladle and product chemistry analysis, UTS, yield strength, elongation and Charpy V-notch impact test reports at the specified test temperature, Rockwell hardness certificates, quench-and-temper heat treatment records with calibrated furnace charts, magnetic particle inspection (MT) reports to ASTM E709 and API 6A acceptance criteria, ultrasonic testing (UT) scan records per API 6A PR1/PR2, and positive material identification (PMI) records for 100% of alloy steel and stainless steel components. Third-party inspection by TÜV, Bureau Veritas, SGS or Intertek can be witnessed at source at our Rajkot facility.

The commercial case for sourcing API forgings from Shivam Forge versus European or North American suppliers is compelling. Indian manufacturing costs for forged AISI 4130 and F22 components are 30–50% lower than equivalent European-manufactured parts at comparable documentation and inspection levels. Lead times are 8–12 weeks for standard wellhead component types, comparable to or better than European suppliers for export orders. We export oil and gas forgings to customers in the USA, UK, UAE, Singapore and Australia, with full EXIM documentation experience.
