The reducer connecting the oversized barrel back down to mainline pipe diameter, and the kicker line tee or other branch connections penetrating the barrel shell, represent a second category of forging-appropriate component within the pig trap assembly, for a related but distinct reason: these are geometric transition and nozzle-to-shell intersection points that inherently concentrate mechanical stress relative to the surrounding straight pipe sections, and forged fittings at these locations provide continuous grain flow through the transition geometry that a flame-cut plate fabrication or built-up weld assembly at the same location cannot replicate — a meaningful structural reliability margin at precisely the points in the pig trap assembly where geometric stress concentration already represents the governing design consideration.
