Precision Forged Lifting Hooks for Rigging, Cranes & Material Handling
A forged crane hook is a safety-critical lifting component — failure means dropped load, structural damage and serious injury risk. The forging process is not optional here: casting produces the porosity and grain discontinuities that crack under cyclic fatigue loading; machining from bar sacrifices the continuous grain flow that gives a hook its tensile ductility at the shank radius and throat. Hot closed-die forging of hook geometry, done properly, aligns grain flow around the curve of the hook, distributes residual compressive stress at the inner radius after normalising, and produces the elongation and reduction-in-area values required by IS 3815 and DIN 15401. Shivam Forge has manufactured forged hooks for crane OEMs, rigging hardware exporters, marine equipment suppliers and construction equipment manufacturers for over two decades.
Crane & Rigging Hook Types We Forge
Single Shank Crane Hooks — IS 3815 / DIN 15401
Standard single-shank crane hooks forged in C-Mn steel per IS 2004 Grade 2 (or equivalent), normalised and tempered. Shank threaded or plain as per hook assembly drawing. Sizes 1T to 50T WLL, dimensional per IS 3815 / DIN 15401. Proof load tested at 2× WLL with elongation mark stamped on shank. 100% visual and magnetic particle testing.
Ramshorn (Double) Hooks for Ladle Cranes
Ramshorn or double-hook forgings for steel plant ladle cranes, heavy fabrication shop overhead cranes and shipyard gantry cranes — applications where load stability during lifting is critical and single-hook swing cannot be tolerated. Forged in C-Mn or low-alloy steel, heat-treated to IS 2004 Grade 2 mechanical properties, proof load tested at 2× WLL.
Eye Hooks & Swivel Hooks
Eye hooks with forged integral eye for direct shackle connection, and swivel hook assemblies for rigging applications requiring 360° rotation under load. Swivel hooks typically supplied as a complete assembly — forged hook body plus swivel bearing plus safety latch. Grade 80 and Grade 100 options available for industrial rigging chains. Certified to BS EN 1677-1.
Grab Hooks for Chain Rigging
Forged grab hooks — wide throat grab hooks, eye grab hooks and clevis grab hooks — for chain rigging and load binding. Narrow throat profile engages chain link for secure, locked lifting; wide throat for quick attachment in overhead lifting slings. Alloy steel Grade 80 (EN 818-6) and Grade 100 in 6–32 mm chain size range. WLL 0.5T–20T.
Clevis Hooks & Slip Hooks
Clevis hooks with integral forged clevis and cross pin for direct connection to chain or sling assemblies. Slip hooks for non-load-bearing shortening and anchoring applications. Both types forged in alloy steel Grade 80, proof load tested per EN 818-6. Latch options: standard safety latch or heavy-duty push-button safety latch for crane rigging.
Safety Latch Hooks & Cargo Hooks
Safety latch hooks with spring-loaded or push-button latch for crane rigging, overhead conveyors and cargo handling. Cargo hooks for container handling cranes and port equipment — heavy-duty forged hooks rated 10T–50T WLL with integral swivel and automatic load-release latch option. All safety latch hooks tested for latch retention force per BS EN 1677.
Quality, Testing & Standards for Forged Hooks
Proof Load Testing at 2× WLL
Every crane hook and lifting hook produced by Shivam Forge is proof load tested at 2× WLL per IS 3815, DIN 15401 and BS EN 1677. The proof load test verifies the hook's structural integrity under maximum design load conditions and is a mandatory requirement for hook certification. Test records reference the hook's serial number and batch traceability.
100% Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT)
All crane hooks and safety-critical lifting hooks undergo 100% magnetic particle testing (wet fluorescent or dry powder) after heat treatment to detect surface and near-surface cracks, laps or seams. MPT is conducted per IS 3703 / ASTM E709. Hooks with any linear indication are rejected. Test records retained in the quality file for each batch.
Dimensional Inspection to IS 3815 / DIN 15401
Critical hook dimensions — throat opening, shank diameter, eye bore, hook height, overall reach — are inspected against the standard hook drawing per IS 3815 or DIN 15401. GO/NO-GO gauging used for high-volume production. CMM measurement available for custom hook profiles. Inspection report supplied with each consignment.
Material & Heat Treatment Certification
Material: C-Mn steel per IS 2004 Grade 2 (or EN14 quenched) with chemistry certified to standard limits. Mechanical properties — UTS, 0.2% proof stress, elongation, Charpy impact at −20°C — certified on material test report. Heat treatment: normalise and temper. Hardness verification per batch. Full traceability from steel heat number to finished hook.
Elongation Mark Stamping per IS 3815
IS 3815 requires that each hook shank be marked with gauge length and elongation reference marks so that in-service hook deformation (indicating overload) can be detected during inspection. We apply elongation marks by stamp before dispatch and record the original gauge length on the test certificate. This is a mandatory safety feature on Indian standard crane hooks.

Supply to crane rental companies, construction equipment manufacturers and EPC contractors. Single shank hooks 1T–25T WLL per DIN 15401, ready for mounting in hook block assembly.
Shivam Forge is a forged crane hook and rigging hook manufacturer based at Shapar GIDC, Rajkot, Gujarat, with over 20 years of experience producing single shank crane hooks, ramshorn ladle hooks, grab hooks, clevis hooks, swivel hooks and safety latch hooks for crane OEMs, rigging hardware exporters, steel plant operators, marine equipment suppliers and construction equipment manufacturers across India and 12 export countries. Our forged lifting hooks range from 0.5T WLL for light rigging applications to 50T WLL for heavy ladle cranes and port equipment, manufactured to IS 3815, DIN 15401 and BS EN 1677.
The metallurgical case for forged hooks over cast hooks is unambiguous in the standards literature. IS 3815, DIN 15401 and BS EN 1677 all mandate forging as the manufacturing route for load-bearing crane hooks above a certain WLL threshold, precisely because cast hooks carry the internal porosity and structural weaknesses that make them unacceptable for cyclic lifting service. Hot closed-die forging of hook geometry develops the continuous grain flow around the hook curve that gives a forged hook its superior fatigue life at the critical inner radius — the highest stress location in a loaded hook — and provides the elongation at fracture that allows a significantly overloaded hook to deform visibly before fracture, providing the warning signal that a cast hook does not give.
Our quality control for crane hook forgings is non-negotiable on three tests. First, 100% magnetic particle testing (MPT) after heat treatment to ASTM E709 / IS 3703 — every hook inspected for surface and near-surface cracks, laps or seams. Second, proof load test at 2× WLL — every hook individually proof loaded, with test record referencing the hook's serial number. Third, elongation mark stamping per IS 3815 — gauge marks applied to the shank before dispatch so that in-service periodic inspection can detect overload-induced elongation. These three together create the documentation trail that crane operators, insurance inspectors and regulatory authorities need.

Do you perform proof load testing on crane hooks?
Yes — every crane hook and safety-critical lifting hook is proof load tested at 2× WLL as standard per IS 3815 and DIN 15401. Proof load test records, including applied load, test duration and observed deformation, are provided with each hook batch. Hooks that show permanent deformation or cracking are rejected.
What is the WLL range for your forged hooks?
We manufacture forged hooks from 0.5T WLL (small rigging and chain hooks) to 50T WLL (heavy ladle crane hooks, offshore crane hooks and large gantry crane hooks). Hooks above 50T WLL are available on special order — please enquire with your hook drawing and WLL specification.
What material is used for crane hook forgings?
Standard material for crane hooks is C-Mn steel per IS 2004 Grade 2 or EN14 (BIS equivalent), normalised and tempered. For Grade 80 and Grade 100 rigging hooks, we use alloy steel conforming to EN 818-6 chemical composition requirements. Chemistry and mechanical property certificates (UTS, yield, elongation, Charpy impact) provided with every batch.
Do you supply IS 3815 elongation marks on crane hook shanks?
Yes. IS 3815 is specific: crane hooks must carry gauge length marks on the shank so that in-service elongation (indicating overload or fatigue damage) can be detected during periodic inspection. We apply elongation marks by stamp and record the original gauge length on the test certificate. This is a standard feature of all our IS 3815 crane hooks.
