Mild Steel Forging – Cost-Effective Strength for General Engineering
Mild steel (MS) forging combines the inherent strength advantages of the forging process with the cost-effectiveness and wide availability of low-carbon steel grades. IS 2062, Fe410, and C20 billets are heated and closed-die forged at our Rajkot facility to produce components with significantly better mechanical properties than equivalent cast or fabricated parts — at a price point that makes sense for high-volume agricultural, structural, and general engineering applications.
Mild Steel Forged Components We Produce
Agricultural Implement Forgings
Tractor drawbar pins, cultivator brackets, seed drill shafts, ripper tines, harrow disc hubs, and plough body fittings forged in IS 2062 E250 and C20. Designed for field conditions — resistant to impact loads and soil abrasion without the cost premium of alloy steel.
Structural Hardware Forgings
Eye bolts, anchor shackles, lifting lugs, pad eyes, clevis brackets, and structural gussets forged in IS 2062 E300 for construction, infrastructure, and material handling applications. Supplied as forged or with CNC-drilled pin holes per drawing.

MS / Mild Steel Grades We Forge
IS 2062 E250 (Fe410W)
The most widely used structural mild steel in India. 250 MPa minimum yield strength, good weldability. Ideal for brackets, structural hardware, agricultural implement fittings, and general engineering components where cost is the primary driver.
IS 2062 E300
Higher yield (300 MPa min) than E250, used where somewhat greater load-bearing capacity is needed without moving to alloy steel. Common in lifting hardware, crane accessories, and load-bearing structural forgings.
Fe410 / Fe430
BIS structural steel grades equivalent to IS 2062 classes. Fe410 is the standard choice for fabrication-adjacent forging applications such as pipe flanges, mounting plates, and weld-on fittings that require good fusion weldability.
C20 (Low Carbon Steel)
Carbon content around 0.18–0.23%, offering excellent ductility and toughness in the forged condition. Used for case-hardening applications, drawn components, and parts that need to be cold-formed or welded post-forging.
C35 / C40 (Medium Carbon MS)
Slightly higher carbon gives better strength after normalizing. C35 and C40 forged components achieve 450–550 MPa tensile without heat treatment, making them suitable for light-duty shafts, levers, and transmission links.
IS 1570 Part 1 Grades
Schedule 1 carbon steels including C10, C15, C20, and C25 per IS 1570. Used for precision MS forgings where specific carbon content, hardenability, and surface finish requirements are documented for quality control.
Advantages of MS Forging Over Casting and Fabrication
30–40% Higher Fatigue Life vs Cast Iron
Mild steel forgings have aligned grain flow and no internal porosity, delivering fatigue life 30–40% better than cast equivalents of the same geometry. For agricultural and construction parts subject to cyclic loading, this translates to fewer field failures and longer service intervals.
Better Weldability Than Higher-Carbon Grades
IS 2062 and C20 forgings can be welded without preheat in most field conditions, unlike EN24 or SAE 4140 components. This makes MS forgings the practical choice for equipment where repair welding in the field is a real-world requirement.
Cost-Effective Raw Material
Mild steel billets are the most readily available and competitively priced steel feedstock in the Indian market. Combined with Shivam Forge's efficient Rajkot production operation, this translates to the lowest per-piece cost for forged components in IS 2062 and Fe grades.
Elimination of Porosity and Shrinkage
Mild steel castings are prone to gas porosity, shrinkage cavities, and inclusions that reduce structural integrity. MS forgings are solid, dense, and free of internal defects — critical for hydraulic fittings, pressure-bearing components, and lifting gear.
Near-Net Shape, Less Machining Waste
Our closed-die MS forging process produces near-net-shape blanks with minimum draft and flash. Machining allowances are controlled to 1.5–3 mm per face, significantly reducing CNC time and material waste compared to bar stock machining.
Flexible Order Volumes for OEMs
We work with agricultural OEMs, infrastructure contractors, and Tier-2 manufacturers on flexible schedules — from 50-piece development samples to 50,000-piece annual blanket orders. Kanban and scheduled release programs available for regular buyers.
Shivam Forge has been supplying mild steel forgings to agricultural OEMs, construction equipment manufacturers, and general engineering firms from Rajkot for over 20 years. Our MS forging operation at Shapar GIDC handles IS 2062 E250, E300, Fe410, C20, and related low-carbon steel grades in component weights from 0.1 kg small hardware up to 250 kg structural forgings. The combination of Rajkot's deep forging ecosystem, competitive raw material sourcing, and our in-house die shop keeps our MS forging prices among the most competitive in India without compromising on dimensional accuracy or mechanical property consistency.
The case for MS forging over MS casting is straightforward for anyone who has dealt with field failures in agricultural or construction equipment. Cast mild steel components routinely develop internal porosity and shrinkage that only shows up as cracking under field loads months after installation. Forged mild steel components are dense and homogeneous — the drop hammer process literally closes any voids and aligns the grain structure to follow the part's load path. Agricultural equipment companies that have switched from MS castings to MS forgings for hitch pins, drawbar eyes, and cultivator brackets typically report a 40–60% reduction in warranty returns.
Our IS 2062 and C20 forgings are supplied in normalized condition as standard, with Brinell hardness verification done batch-by-batch. Customers who need specific mechanical properties — tensile strength, yield, elongation — receive material test certificates from our in-house lab or NABL-accredited external labs, depending on documentation requirements. For export customers in the UK, UAE, and Australia, we can align documentation to BS EN or ASTM equivalents where applicable, making our MS forgings straightforward to qualify into international supply chains.
Lead times for standard mild steel forgings at Shivam Forge run 7–14 working days for existing die programs and 4–6 weeks for new die development. We maintain billet inventory for the most common IS 2062 grades, which means we can start production quickly once an order is confirmed. For customers with recurring requirements, we offer scheduled blanket orders where you commit to an annual volume and we maintain a rolling production schedule to keep your line supplied without large single-order commitments.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is MS forging and what grades does it cover?
MS forging (mild steel forging) refers to closed-die or open-die forging of low-carbon steel grades — primarily IS 2062, Fe410, C20, and C35 in the Indian market. These steels have carbon content below 0.35% and are valued for their combination of strength, toughness, weldability, and cost-effectiveness. Shivam Forge processes all standard IS mild steel grades for agricultural, structural, and engineering applications.
What is the price of mild steel forgings in India?
MS forging prices depend on component weight, complexity, die cost, quantity, and finishing requirements. IS 2062 is among the most competitively priced forging materials. Share your drawing and required quantity with us at sales@shivamforge.com and we will provide a detailed quotation within 24 hours. Call +91 92657 72827 for immediate assistance.
What is the difference between MS forging and MS casting?
MS forging shapes heated steel billets using compressive die force, producing dense, porosity-free components with aligned grain flow and 30–40% better fatigue life. MS casting pours molten metal into molds, which can introduce gas porosity, shrinkage cavities, and non-uniform grain structure. For structural, agricultural, and load-bearing components, MS forgings are significantly more reliable than MS castings.
Which agricultural components can be supplied as MS forgings?
Tractor hitch pins, drawbar eyes, cultivator brackets, rotavator hubs, seed drill linkages, plough body fittings, harrow disc centers, water pump impeller hubs, and irrigation fitting flanges are all commonly produced as MS forgings at Shivam Forge. Agricultural equipment OEMs in Gujarat and Punjab are among our regular customers.
Can you forge IS 2062 E250 and E300 both?
Yes. We forge both IS 2062 E250 and E300 as well as other sub-grades in the IS 2062 family. The grade is selected based on your application's yield strength requirement, weldability needs, and impact test temperature (if applicable for IS 2062 E250C or E300C sub-grades).
Do you supply MS forgings in normalized condition?
Normalizing after forging is our standard practice for IS 2062 and C20 grades. It relieves forging stresses, refines grain structure, and delivers consistent hardness (typically 140–180 HB for IS 2062) across the entire batch. Annealed or as-forged supply is available on request.
What is the minimum order for MS forgings from Shivam Forge?
We accept orders from 50 pieces for standard die-available components and from 100 pieces for new die development. For large-volume programs (5,000 pieces+), we offer die-free pricing structures where die cost is built into per-piece price over the program life.
